SERVICEMASTER EMPLOYEES STOP TWO IDYLLWILD FIRES
On July 2nd, Wayne Clark of ServiceMaster Professionals
in Hemet noticed smoke coming from the National Park wilderness above
Idyllwild. Clark, a volunteer firefighter, hiked up a nearby trail, created
a firebreak and waited for reinforcements. The fire, thanks to Clark,
was contained to less than an acre.
Ironically, just a few days before, Tony Padilla, L.J.
Jove and Jack Holzhauer, also of ServiceMaster Professionals, were traveling
home from a call on Hwy 243 near Twin Pines Road when they noticed a cloud
of smoke that covered the road. “We saw an older gentleman trying
to contain the fire. So we used the next turnout to be able to reach the
fire,” said Padilla.
As the ServiceMaster Professionals crew arrived the older
gentleman left. “Luckily we had just come from a water loss, and
we had some very wet carpet padding in the back of one of our vans. L.J.
grabbed the pad and began to drag it across the flames.” Holzhauer
found a faucet near the fire and began filling buckets to douse the flames
while Padilla began heaping dirt on the fire.
After the fire was extinguished, Clark contacted the
Idyllwild Fire Department who arrived shortly after to ensure that there
was no further damage. “The firemen thanked us and we were off to
our next adventure,” said Padilla.”
